Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) is a cooperative industrial research association of the automotive industry with Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, Government of India.
Standards development activities of ARAI
- Formulation and publishing standards for Automotive vehicles and for auto components, including Procedures for Type Approval and Certification of Vehicles for Compliance to Central Motor Vehicles Rules
The Standards are developed by Automotive Industry Standards Committee (AISC) set up under Central Motor Vehicles Rules - Technical Standing Committee (CMVR-TSC) by Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, (Dept. of Road Transport & Highways), Govt. of India.

- Providing technical support to National Standing Committee on matters related to WP.29 (World Forum for Harmonization of Vehicle Regulations) under the UNECE. This Committee establishes national policy and guidelines on the subject of harmonization of automotive regulations
- Issue of Documents on Test Method, Testing Equipment and Related Procedures for Testing Type Approval and Conformity of Production (Cop) of Vehicles for Emission as per CMV Rules 115, 116 And 126 (CMVR TAP Documents)

Certification Activities of ARAI
- ARAI also provides Homologation/ type approval, certification and laboratory services to the Indian as well as overseas auto industry.
