The National Institute of Training for Standardization (NITS) was set up under the aegis of BIS in 1995 to
meet the growing needs and expectations of the industry for quality training in the fields of standardization, quality assurance,
management systems, certification, laboratory testing, etc. Since then NITS has been organizing various types of training programmes
for industry as well as for consumer bodies and common man.
With increased globalization and integration of global
markets; standards, standardization and conformity assessment are gaining increased importance. To ensure that appropriate knowledge
of the subjects of standardization and conformity assessment are available in the country, NITS imparts training to various
stakeholders in the field of standardization, quality and conformity assessment through various training programmes that address the
growing needs of stakeholders and accounts for global trends in the relevant areas. Through these training programmes, NITS play a
significant role in national development effort by imparting knowledge, training and capacity building, creation of intellectual
property and developing quality culture in the country.
Training programmes:
NITS conducts
variety of training programmes on different subjects at its facilities at Noida campus as well as at its training centers in Chennai,
Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, Bhopal and Jaipur. These programmes form part of NITS Annual Training Calendar and identified as
‘On-Campus Programmes’. In addition to the ‘On-Campus Programmes’, NITS also conducts similar programmes or
customized programmes on these and related subjects on specific request of client organizations at their premises as ‘Off-Campus
Programmes’.

International Training Programmes
NITS is one of the training
institutes identified by Ministry of External Affairs, Govt. of India under Special Commonwealth African Assistance Programme (SCAAP),
Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), Colombo Plan (CP) for developing countries. NITS has been conducting these
programmes to developing countries of Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America every year since 1968.
